ASKAMS Sponsor Local Girls Rugby Team

For ASKAMS supporting community initiatives and projects is one of our core business principles; we have established a community benefits team who choose projects that have the greatest synergy with our key values.

In May we became sponsors for the Whitley Bay Barbarians U12 Girls Rugby Team.  The team was established at the start of 2016 after a group of girls wanted to continue playing for a team after they left their local middle school.  The club gladly accepted the squad and it has quickly grown in numbers with 18 players now registered.

The coach for the U12 team Lee Carbutt commented: –

“The Whitley Bay Barbarians girls section has gone from strength to strength over the last three years, we have grown from one team to now having teams at U12, U14, U16 Girls and Open Age Women. With the addition of the new U12 we now have a full section and a real progression ladder for all girls who want to play rugby.

The U12 girls have shown incredible commitment, dedication and passion so far and it’s great to finally be able to deliver the new kit for them. They now, rightly, look the part and can begin to feel part of the club, playing in the same kit as all the other teams.

This team is the youngest ever team we have had for girls and its starts to put us on level terms with the teams from Yorkshire/Lancashire”

Aaron Dodd our Technical Director’s daughter is part of the team and he approached Stewart the MD who was more than happy to become involved in another excellent sporting project in the heart of the local community.
