P402 – SURVEYING and SAMPLING for ASBESTOS IN BUILDINGS

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This course is perfect for new surveyors, but it would also be of benefit to newly qualified architects. Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG264 (Asbestos: The Survey Guide) and have a minimum of six months prior experience of carrying out asbestos surveys.

AIM
To provide candidates with background and practical knowledge in the surveying of buildings for asbestos and to provide general guidance on management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to any identified asbestos.

COURSE CONTENT
The syllabus is structured into five sections.

  1. Introduction and Legislative Requirements – 5%
  2. Asbestos in Buildings – 25%
  3. Risk Assessments and Management of Asbestos – 15%
  4. Bulk Sampling and Personal Decontamination – 20%
  5. Practical Work – 35%

CERTIFICATION
Candidates who pass all the parts within 12 months will be awarded a Proficiency Certificate in Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings.

P405 – MANAGEMENT OF ASBESTOS IN BUILDINGS

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The course is primarily aimed at those who will be in charge of asbestos removal duty on site: duty holders and asbestos managers, although newly-qualified architects would also benefit.

Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and in particular Regulation 4 and the supporting Approved Code of Practice and guidance L143 Managing and Working with Asbestos.

AIM
To provide candidates with practical knowledge and skills to manage asbestos in buildings and to provide a basic knowledge of asbestos removal procedures.

The syllabus is structured into five sections:

  1. Legislation – 20%
  2. Management of Asbestos in Buildings – 30%
  3. Asbestos Remediation – 20%
  4. Role of Laboratory/Analysts – 5%
  5. Practical Work – 25%

CERTIFICATION
Candidates who pass both examinations within 12 months will be awarded a Proficiency Certificate in Management of Asbestos in Buildings.
